Spunky White Chick Music

13 June 2007 No Comment
I’m going through this spunky white chick music phase right now that you should join me in.

Totally New: Yelle, “Je Veux Te Voir”
If you think French people are irritating, skip ahead. Personally they crack me up. Yelle is this new “booty-pop” artist as she calls herself, and this song is actually a dis track attacking the misogynistic lyrics of French rap group TTC’s frontman Cuizinier. A loose translation? The chorus is “I want to see you in a porno film with your small penis so everyone knows about you.” It’s ok if you don’t understand it, the lyrics are mad sassy and emasculating. And this video…

New To Me: The Sounds, “Tony The Beat”
The Sounds are technically a 2 girl, 2 guy group from Sweden in the tradition of such cheesiness as Abba and Ace of Base but don’t let that deter you. Their songs have appeared in a few movies and video games, but this jam from 2006, “Tony The Beat,” is by far the hottest. I’ve been jamming to this song at least twice daily while getting dressed for work; it makes me feel all anti-establishment. It’s the kind of song that Bally Total Fitness would use in a commercial in a few years so you may as well get down with it now before it becomes all mainstream and annoying.

Old School Style: The Breeders, “Cannonball”
This song came out when I was in eighth grade and just rediscovering spunky white chicks and white music in general. I have no idea what the song is actually about but it’s an all-time spunky fave of mine. The Breeders are those semi-dirty white chicks who don’t use hair conditioner and are always together so you think they’re lesbians but sike they’re actually twin sisters.

So what do you think? Please be respectful to other readers!
