Old School Fridays: Breakup Songs
People from Philly tend to love Benjamin Franklin, Freeway, and Boyz II Men. This Fourth of July, Boyz II Men (minus Mike, who is suffering from health problems) gave us a free concert on the Waterfront. You’ll be glad to hear that they’re all holding up pretty well – in fact I’d even say that they “still got it.” They sounded great and have turned their Boyz dance moves into grown and sexy Men moves. Since I’ve had a crush on chunky lil’ Wanya since around ‘92, I’ve played his 1995 duet with Brandy (remember when they were an item? and she still had braids?), “Brokenhearted,” on repeat every time I’ve been…well…brokenhearted. Enjoy.

Wow…I think I may have to add this to my mp3 player…their voices sound so good together…
Happy OSF!
Ah what a nice little flashback, thank you for that
And fab blog too honey! Since you def keep up with the latest, I have to ask if you’ve heard about If Looks Could Kill? I work for Toyota, who released an interactive web series that follows an aspiring fashion designer, Bianca (Femi Emiola, Wicked Wicked Games), into a world of espionage.
And with each webisode, viewers are given a chance at winning prizes, like digital cameras, laptops, and all that fab stuff each week. This week’s winner will get a trip to NYC + major shopping spree, and 150 people will win a Bluefly or MAC gift card. Next week: the grand prize is a fully loaded ‘09 Toyota Camry XLE! Fingers crossed, girl!
Hope I haven’t overstepped my bounds by contacting you directly. I’d love to get your take on ILCK since it’s clear bloggers like yourself are in-the-know about what’s hot and current, so I figured this would be something to catch your interest. If you’re into it, check out: http://www.iflookscouldkill.com
Looking forward to hearing from you honey!
Best,

this is a good…no great cut! i’m digging it!
Now I keep hearing that line in my head from back in the day:
“Boyz To Men, ABC, BBD!”
Member that?
This used to be my song. I had this on repeat in my discman when I was commuting to work/school.
Have a good weekend!
@IW
“Boyz To Men, ABC, BBD!”
…the east coast family!
I wanted to make it up to that show but gas prices made me rethink my plans. F&$*(#&$( economy.
Anyway, I loved this song. I never thought Brandi had a stellar voice or anything but she really shined on this one with her former boo.
This song was too depressing for me to listen to, because I knew this song would come true for Brandy and Wanya. She was young and not wise enough…
Boyz II Men were kings of sad love songs, I’m surprised I haven’t seen more of them on OSF…
I can’t believe there are doves AND puppies in this video. I didn’t remember such excess.
“…never missing a beat…
nah…
while cooling on South Street…”
Sorry, I just had to do that!
L
I had forgotten all about this song! Nice pick! I didn’t know you were part of the OSF family! I’ll add you to my list! Welcome!
I haven’t heard this song in awhile. Plus, I had forgotten that Brandy and Wanya were a couple at one point. Thanks for the flashback.
now the entire city of philadelphia gets to know that you’re a celebrity… congrats!!

THROWBACK POST!!
Police Sketches of Black Dudes
By Thembi Ford on September 26, 2007
Police sketch artist drawings of black people are notoriously poor and rarely look like anyone in particular. I’m convinced that when asked to describe the suspect, witnesses just describe the last black male they saw, even if they last saw a black male on television. So I did a little Thembi-style experiment by going online and digging up dozens of sketches of black suspects to see just who the strong arm of the law is looking for.
