Odds & Ends: Black Weblog Awards Edition

22 August 2008 10 Comments

If you haven’t peeped my sidebar, I’m a “Blog to Watch” finalist in the 2008 Black Weblog Awards. The word “honored” is just not strong enough to explain how sassy that makes me feel! The nomination has taken me from high-on-life to a little self-conscious and back all week long. Common sense says that I should keep writing, ask for your votes in this final round, and . . . well . . . keep writing. But back to the voting thing, please oh please do so here!

In order to submit a vote for What Would Thembi Do? you also have to vote in all of the other categories. I’m sure you already have some favorites, but this week’s Odds & Ends features some tasty posts from the finalists that I personally endorse. Enjoy!

Blogxilla was the first blogger to link to WWTD – we started blogging together and look at us now. He’s a wild dude who I sort of wish lived in Philly, but I’m also glad he doesn’t because he’d get me into real trouble. Need proof? His “Cinderella” is up for “Best Blog Post Series”. Scandalous.

My girl Claire writes the impeccably stylish blog The Fashion Bomb, which is up for “Blog of the Year” and “Best Style/Fashion Blog”. She’s on her way to Paris and London (I’m hatin’!), and she shares her suggestions for travel essentials in this great post.

PostBourgie, is, from start to finish, the “next” way for us to talk politics and news, and the writing is impeccable. My favorite is their post on the “irrefutable truth” that Wesley Snipes hates black women. I won’t spoil the surprise, just get over there and read it.

I’ve been reading Soul Bounce since day one, and WWTD frequent commenter and friend in my head Ill Mami almost made me tear up in this post about our fallen soldier Lauryn Hill.

Hampton06 found WWTD after randomly Googling Lynne Thigpen, which makes me kind of proud. His blog is up for “Best Personal Blog” and as one of my readers and someone who clearly understands that black sitcoms are in crisis, he deserves your vote.

Congratulations Thembi. I’d heard of your blog through O Hell Nawl and everything but I’d never stopped by to visit.

Well now I have. I linked you so expect my return. LOL. And my vote.

O Hell Nawl, Field Negro, Ata Nafia, Sheila Goss, Aunt Jemima’s Revenge, Soul Bounce, Butta, and Songs in the Key of Life are also great blogs, amongst some others.

Congrats love and thank you so much for the compliment you gave on the Lauryn Hill post I wrote. I’m so glad to know we’re friends in each others heads and that we can elevate black blogging to a respectable place.

    Thanks again!

I really hate their voting scheme & how that force people to vote for every category listed. A serious revamp is in order.

I guess they figure if you have to vote for every category, you will look at the nominees & decide.

I truly only intentionally voted for 5 blogs, which includes you. Them others I selected randomly.
