Bern Nadette Stanis Wilin’ Out
Bern Nadette Stanis. She was one of my first Fresh Black Girls and I have called out her extraness in the past. The thing about Thelma is that she rarely got the chance to really show her stuff, but when she did ol’ girl used to do SO MUCH. In fact, TOO MUCH. Poor thing. As pretty as she was her acting skills were always of the try-hard variety. I prove this to people by showing them snippets from 1977′s “Thelma’s Brief Encounter,” which I have stored on my home DVR. Luckily, it’s FINALLY online. Indulge me at 4:13, 4:40, 4:55, 5:30, 6:10, 6:45, and if you don’t get what I’m trying to demonstrate by then I can’t help you. This makes me laugh until my stomach hurts every time.
Well it was over the top but I didnt think it was that bad.
I love me some Good Times, but NONE of the actors on that show were ever what you might call subtle. Bern Nadette/Thelma’s right along with errybody else. “Damn, damn, damn!!!”
It made me think of Taraji Hinson in “Baby Boy”: “I hate you Jody!”, lol
She and JJ both tried too hard IMO.
