Thembi, your review was so on-point! I too loved the movie. It really took me back to 94-95. Biggie and the Junior Mafia was practically the soundtrack for my grad school days. The memories of that time were so vivid for me as I heard all the songs from that era. I saw the movie this weekend and I’ve been pumping my “Ready to Die” cd since then. The early to mid 90s were truly as wonderful time for hip-hop and r&b. Thanks for this!

Even though I have a family member who’s in the movie, I had no intentions of seeing it b/c I never saw it as a big screen movie, but more so HBO..but after my sister raved about it (and she’s a movie critic) I had to see it…thankfully I finally listened to her…and went to pay the $$ instead of waiting for the DVD.

I had NO interest in seeing this until I read your review. Fine, I’ll cop it on bootleg. Although I think the theater experience may be worth my dough. Dang, I shoulda seen it last weekend while I was in LA. Can you imagine the crowd at the Magic Johnson theaters at the Crenshaw mall? Priceless!!!

Fabulous review. With some exceptions, I’ve never been all about hip-hop culture and was really not much of a Biggie fan in general, but from the minute I heard about this movie I was SO excited for some reason. I have no idea why…maybe because it’s about things that I was actually around for…I dunno, but it looks kickass. I’m just dying to see it, and your review’s made me even more excited.

I get a mind to hurt people when they yell at the screen and roll up wit babies ‘n’ shit, though, so I might hafta bootleg or just wait till it rolls around on the digital video disc.

I watched in an extremely hood Brooklyn theater and loved it. Of course there were mothers there with babies…and some ppl with kids that I swear they were prolly tellin (ooh, you know we made you to this song). They straight popped bottles and smoked spliffs in the row in front of me.

I agree Bassett’s accent was off, but I didnt mind her acting that much. I did however love Derek Luke’s impersonation of Puffy. I imagine that he is just that full of himself and constantly dancing in real life.

Girl, I caught myself trying too and like you, I saw this in a black theater and the whole crowd cracked up when Craig Mack came on the scene! Can I just say that dude from Losing Isaiah still looks like a teenager to me!! How old is he?
