Diana Ross – Afro Vogue, 1968
Why is it that the older I get the more I sweat Diana Ross? I always thought she was so gorgeous and glamorous but now that I know what a *diva* is I’m in awe of the career she’s had. Undercover Black Man hipped me to this 1968 clip of a twenty-four year old Diana rocking out with some African Interpretive Dance on national television while she was still part of The Supremes. Just for some context, 1968 is the year Martin Luther King was assassinated. Blaze those trails, sister!

Her small frame and big fro reminds me of my African dance teacher at age 16. She was such a small lady, short in stature but when she danced… oh goodness she commanded your attention. Her moves wers sharp! Staccato! Anything but slow… My grandmother spoke of her fondly, he drummer followed her almost drunkenly. Unfortunately most of te steps themselve are jazzy/modernish with african flair.
YESSSSSS!!!! This video gives me life!
