Old School Fridays: Let’s Cuddle Up…
The phrase “cuddle up,” doesn’t really compute in my mind properly, but thanks to a really overactive imagination the idea of spontaneously falling in love with someone who I thought was just a friend has always resonated with me. Maybe it’s because the whole “friends and then lovers” storyline is so essential to American sitcoms and during my formative years I had a bit of an obsession with the Dwayne and Whitley saga. I’ve always asked myself if there’s a Dwayne in my life that I’m missing out on and kept my eyes (and heart) open. At the age of 30 I’m pretty sure there’s not, but my musical tastes have always been influenced by the sort of silly, sort of practical idea of it all. Since I could never connect with it organically, “The Closer I Get To You,” by Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack is the kind of song that I tried to force all of my boyfriends to accept as “our song,” even though none of the dudes really cared for it much and the content had nothing to do with our relationship. What a bunch of losers. Can’t anyone see that this song is almost perfect in every way, from the melody to their voices to the lyrics and just EVERYTHING about it? Take a listen.

I sure thought of these two when I was making my selections but thought they were to easy and that someone else would post them! But they are among the first I think of in this category!
Excellent choice!
That’s a good one! Check me out and see who I picked. Happy OSF to you!
Definitely a great pick. I think many of the old school duets are perfect for this. Thank you!
And please: 30 is definitely NOT too late. My hint: attend your 15 year high school reunion with an open heart and mind. You never know what some fool boy you didn’t even thing of as a friend might be up to 15 years later.
One of my all time favorite songs!!!
So what do you think? Please be respectful to other readers!
