Oh, JJ…
I have to reveal some journalistic laziness on my part. I fully intended to go to the event advertised on this flier but other stuff, like laying in bed watching Special Victims Unit, seemed to have taken precedence.
Who can blame me for dodging the sorrow induced at seeing our beloved Jimmy Walker with his chin wistfully propped in the crook of his wrist, advertising an event via a flier that my brother found in a neighborhood meat market in Comic Sans font? Comic Sans font, J.J.? Really? By the way, yes this is printed on regular old paper in black and white. How far the fallen do fall.

Oh gosh. I went to the expo on Saturday. Strolled right by him and Bern Nadette (dreadful invented spelling) Stanis and so did everybody else. The expression on his face seemed to suggest that he was just as confused about his presence as I was. Furthermore, he looked dressed for a day of yard work.

Police Sketches of Black Dudes
By Thembi Ford on September 26, 2007
Police sketch artist drawings of black people are notoriously poor and rarely look like anyone in particular. I’m convinced that when asked to describe the suspect, witnesses just describe the last black male they saw, even if they last saw a black male on television. So I did a little Thembi-style experiment by going online and digging up dozens of sketches of black suspects to see just who the strong arm of the law is looking for.
